MEM provides students with flexible program options.
Standard MEM Degree
The MEM program requires 14 courses and is typically completed in 15 months, starting in the Fall term (September) and completing the following Fall term. The following program plan outlines the eight core courses and six electives students are required to take.
For students who want to focus in a particular area, curriculum examples are below.
Required Applied Mathematics Electives Choose two (2), from the following list. Classes other than those listed may satisfy the applied mathematics requirement, but director approval must be obtained. ENGS 103: Operations Research ENGS 108: Applied Machine Learning ENGM 182: Data Analytics ENGM 184: Introduction to Optimization Methods ENGM 204: Data Analytics Project Lab
Additional Electives MEM students can choose to enroll in any four (4) electives that are:
Students enrolled in Dartmouth's BE program (Dartmouth AB/BE and Dual-Degree students) who wish to build out their technical management knowledge should consider applying to the MEM program. BE+MEM students work towards both degrees simultaneously, typically reducing the time needed to complete both degrees by one term. Students are encouraged to apply to the MEM program during their senior year.
MEM Applied Math Electives (choose at least two (2)) ENGS 103: Operations Research ENGS 108: Applied Machine Learning ENGM 182: Data Analytics ENGM 184: Introduction to Optimization Methods ENGM 204: Data Analytics Project Lab *other applied math courses may be substituted with MEM director approval
Additional Electives MEM students can choose to enroll in any graduate level engineering course at Thayer or they may choose to take electives at the following graduate schools:
Tuck School of Business (maximum of two (2) covered by tuition)
Students interested in gaining the full range of both the management skills taught at Tuck School of Business and the technical skills taught at Thayer School of Engineering will benefit from this joint degree. Students can complete both degrees in a total of eight (8) terms (including one summer). Candidates must complete the separate admission and financial aid application processes at each school. It is recommended that students apply and enroll at Tuck first, then apply to Thayer during their first year at Tuck.
