ENGS 53 - Intro Quantum Technologies
Description
In the early 1900s, quantum mechanics replaced the classical understanding of physics, leading to the first quantum revolution that harnessed quantum mechanical phenomena to create innovative new technologies like transistors and lasers. Today, we are witnessing the second quantum revolution, which requires exploiting quantum mechanics fully by isolating and controlling quantum systems. This course aims to prepare students for this second revolution and the transformative technologies that will be developed, which will significantly impact the future of electrical engineering, materials science, and computation. Through hands-on experience with actual quantum systems, we will explore the use of quantum mechanics in sensing, communication, and computation to develop an intuition for the subject and its applications.Prerequisites
